The ASPIRA - Eugenio Maria De Hostos
Youth Leadership Charter School
is the newest of ASPIRA's three charter middle schools. We
are located in Miami's Wynwood community, located just north of downtown Miami
near the artsy Design District.
Our mission is to motivate,
orient, and assist youth in their intellectual, personal, and
cultural development through innovative educational programs.
We advocate a holistic approach, which implies that schools,
parents, youth, and community must work together to bring about
positive results. We serve approximately
325 students in 6th through 8th grade whose parents are interested in greater
family involvement in their child's education. Students benefit from small
class sizes (average 20 students per class), which facilitates one-on-one and
small group interaction with teachers.
The main component
of ASPIRA-Eugenio Maria De Hostos Leadership Charter School is leadership
development. Our goals are to help students realize
positive self-worth, gain cultural sensitivity, and build strong
moral character. We provide a safe, disciplined environment,
high academic standards and social interactions that prepare
students for higher education and help them reach their full
potential as role models and leaders for the new millennium. Course
offerings include Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Science, Art,
Reading and Leadership/Karate. In addition to our academic program, ASPIRA
of Florida, Inc. has funded a comprehensive after school program through the U.S.
Department of Education's 21st Century Learning Centers Initiative. The
program features tutoring in all subject areas and special interest clubs,
including the ASPIRA Leadership Club, Computer Technology Club, Karate Club and
Newspaper Club.
