This past year, ASPIRA South Youth Leadership Charter School received the First Place Award among Miami-Dade County Charter Schools for its student fundraising campaign for the United Way of Miami-Dade. The award was presented at a United Way banquet at Signature Gardens. Aspirantes raised a total of $600, achieving 231% of the school’s goal and leading the county’s 19 independent schools. The ASPIRA Youth Leadership Charter School (North) received great news at the end of the year when its Charter was renewed for the next 15 years. This renewal is a testament to the hard work and positive impact the school has had on its students and community. Our newest school, ASPIRA Eugenio Maria De Hostos Charter School, completed its first year successfully. This success has resulted in increased popularity in the community. The school’s enrollment has increased 30% from 118 – 170 students with a waiting list of over 50 students. Parents are eager to enroll their children in a safe small school environment. In order to facilitate the increased enrollment, the school underwent construction to add 2 new classrooms.ASPIRA of Florida, Inc. is in the front lines of the school reform movement to provide greater educational opportunity for Latino and other minority students. ASPIRA believes that parents must be given a choice in public education to send their children to small schools operated by community-based organizations that have the credibility in their neighborhoods to deliver services to youth and their parents. For the past 10 years, we have operated alternative middle schools for high risk minority youth and we concluded that it was time to administer schools that would be available to all minority children, not just those at risk. Under the leadership of Raul A. Martinez, President & CEO, ASPIRA began this journey in 1998 with the opening of the ASPIRA Youth Leadership Charter School in North Miami. The next year, ASPIRA opened the, ASPIRA South Youth Leadership Charter School in South Dade, and in 2001 began classes at the ASPIRA Eugenio Maria De Hostos Charter School in Miami. |

ASPIRA schools emphasize intellectual, personal, and cultural development through innovative educational programs and community service. Utilizing the ASPIRA Process-A3 (Awareness, Analysis, and Action), we advocate a holistic approach, which implies that schools, parents, youth and community must work together to bring about positive results. Our goal is to help students realize positive self-worth, gain cultural sensitivity and build strong moral character. We provide a safe, disciplined environment, high academic standards, and social interactions that prepare students for higher education and help them reach their full potential as role models and leaders for the new millennium.
